Urban-Air Port Recruits Louis Liu as China Business Development Lead

Louis Liu becomes the latest top talent recruited by Urban-Air Port (UAP) to grow their footprint in China and the Asia Pacific region.

With China's "Low Altitude Economy" gathering momentum, China has positioned itself to be a global force in Advanced Air Mobility and the eVTOL industry.

Recognising the rapid progress by China's eVTOL OEM developers from Shenzhen, Guangzhou in the South, across to Chengdu in the West & JiangSu & Shanghai in the East, combined with the growing public, private & regulatory support for the adoption of eVTOL flights – it’s imperative that UAP have boots on the ground in this region. Louis and UAP have been working together since April 2023 and today, formalise this partnership to advance UAP’s innovative landing & charging infrastructure technologies for China with Louis and DAP Technologies acting as UAP's Key Industrial Partner.

Whilst the Middle East might see some early projects / programmes, due to the population size and regulatory support, China is forecast to be the largest market for UAP, followed by North America.

UAP is no stranger to working in APAC, having worked closely with Honda Motors in Japan, supported initiatives in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Malaysia and, of course, with long-term strategic partners like Supernal, (a part of Hyundai Motor Group), and LG Electronics - South Korea is very familiar territory. However, China alone could be a very lucrative market for UAP technologies over the next two decades alone.

China is quite literally huge for us.

Having travelled and worked in China on many infrastructure projects for over two decades successfully, I know only too well how important it is to have a cultural sensitivity & local know-how, intelligence and presence.

I fondly recall working all across China, from Hong Kong & Shenzhen in the Special Administrative Regions to Tier 1 cities like Shanghai, Beijing & Chongqing as well as fast growing Tier 2 cities like Zhengzhou (the BYD hub city for their new electric vehicle mega factory) and understanding local, cultural & regulatory nuances was critical.

I’m delighted to have Louis support our growth plans into China to serve the burgeoning Low Altitude Economy with the world’s most advanced landing & charging vertiport technology.
— Ricky Sandhu, Founder, Urban-Air Port

Louis, via DAP Technologies has built his reputation in the Aerospace and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) industry by making their customers and partners successful in all of their technology integration projects in-country. He first supported Volocopter in their China ambitions and this experience may yet be vital as Volocopter advances its new corporate structure with Diamond Aircraft Industries, a subsidiary of Wanfeng Aviation Industry Co. Louis' approach has been to only work and represent experienced, proven & exceptional companies from western nations and by doing so, advancing China's ability to deliver on its ambitions for their Low Altitude Economy.

With our core patents granted in UK & Europe and filed internationally including in the US & China, combined with the recent advances that have been made in China with eVTOL OEMs such as EHang Holdings Limited, Autoflight, and Aerofugia, it’s time for us to be in China.

Having experienced working in China, for many years, I know how ambitious clients and projects are.

Nothing is impossible.

That’s precisely our approach and we are excited about advancing our presence in China and paving the way with regulators and local governments with support from Louis and DAP Technologies to ensure UAP is a foundational infrastructure provider for the Low Altitude Economy.
— Andrea Wu, CEO of Urban-Air Port

Ricky Sandhu speaking at the Worlds 1st Fully Operational Vertiport, delivered by Urban-Air Port in downtown Coventry City Centre UK in 2022 now advanced into their AirOne Next Gen.

I am thrilled to share my expertise in working with Chinese customers and their goals with the team at UAP. China’s Low Altitude Economy is growing at an extremely fast pace, thanks to the support of the Chinese authority’s policies.

New flight test areas are being opened throughout China to enable eVTOL manufacturers to experiment. China is now home to more than 20 credible eVTOL manufacturers working on demonstrators or on certification of existing platforms.

All projects from local governments and manufacturers need AAM infrastructure - Vertiports, and I believe UAP’s patented suite of solutions offers many advantages for China from a low CapEx and small footprint but with enhanced safety features and efficient passenger / aircraft throughput - making them attractive to a number of cities and urban sites currently being explored.

I look forward to a continued long partnership working with UAP in the Chinese AAM space. The strategic cooperation with UAP is an important step for us to create our DAP One-Stop AAM Solution.
— Louis Liu, CEO of DAP Technologies and Business Development Lead for UAP in China

About Urban-Air Port®

Aviation-Tech & Defence-Tech | The World's most advanced, patented infrastructure technology for Advanced Air Mobility.

Urban-Air Port is an award-winning infrastructure provider that develops landing and charging infrastructure for new forms of sustainable urban air transport such as passenger and cargo VTOL air taxis and autonomous delivery drones for civilian and defence applications. Its mission is to enable the electrification of aviation by addressing the largest single constraint to sustainable air mobility – ground infrastructure – in order to create a zero-emission mobility ecosystem, significantly cutting congestion and air pollution from passenger and cargo transport.

Urban-Air Port is recognised as a world leader in the Advanced Air Mobility sector, with plans to deliver patented vertiport technology that provides ultra-compact, high-capacity infrastructure: this will revolutionise cities around the world, making them more connected and cleaner, thereby accelerating our green economic future. Urban-Air Port’s technology is proven to respond more effectively to the unique characteristics of electric & hybrid VTOL aircraft and therefore offer safer, quieter and more sustainable vertiport infrastructure than any other provider.

The Urban-Air Port technology-driven “Vertical Airfield” compacts a conventional airfield and allows for safe electric vertical take-off and landing at height, acting like an aircraft carrier. Urban-Air Port vertiports are 80% smaller than any other provider: they provide a modular design for flexible expansion, maximise eVTOL throughput and come with a modular energy storage system – all in all providing an enhanced passenger experience, and optimum performance and range for the eVTOL due to minimised energy consumption during ground operations.

Urban-Air Port’s Air-One project in Coventry, launched in April 2022 and supported by UK Government Research and Innovation funding, was the world’s first fully operational vertiport in such dense downtown location, with over 15,000 visitors and 150 successful flights orchestrated in the complex urban and air environment of downtown Coventry and within Coventry Airport’s Flight Restriction Zone.

The company is backed by major international partners, including Supernal (a part of Hyundai Motor Group) and Directors of M7 Real Estate (part of Oxford Properties). Urban-Air Port’s team of innovators, aeronautical engineers and aerospace experts have worked at companies including Airbus, Foster + Partners, Arup, BAA, Bank of Ireland, Knight Frank, McKinsey, Hyundai Motor Group, Vertical Aerospace, EASA, NATS, Uber, Qatar Airways, H55, Otto Aviation and the US Special Forces & British Army.
